the name game

Ordering coffee and tea in Singapore coffeeshops is an artform in itself. Here's a rough guide on how to do it:


The names of the drinks have Malay and Chinese dialect roots. For example, Teh is Tea and Kopi is Coffee in Bahasa Melayu (the Malay Language). Whereas Peng in Teh-Peng and Kopi-Peng means iced in one of the major Chinese dialects in Singapore, Hokkien or Fukien.

think u r wrong abt the teh thingy.
teh is w condensed milk.

teh-si is with evaporated milk + sugar.

teh-si kosong is with evaporated milk only.

teh-si siu ti is with evaporated milk and less sugar.
