Are you keeping your resume up to date?
I've started a new job this January as an IT consultant. I love the job, and I especially love the companies philosophy and values. One of the things that has been impressed upon me at my new company is the idea of keeping my resume up to date.
You may think at first this sounds strange, but in my industry (and possibly yours) it is actually very important. Business development depends on the placing the right people in the right jobs at the right time. Trust me, this is not an easy task, especially if you work for a company with thousands of employees. If for no other reason, updating your resume is an excellent time to reflect on your career path, where you are know, and where you would like to go in the future.
I consider it important to make a habit of keeping my resume up to date and subscribed to various resume posting services. I currently love my job and have no intention of loosing it, but if you are running your own small business on the side, your resume is an invaluable marketing tool to get your name out there, and helping others find you when they need specific skills for either a short period..or a long period of time.
